Opening Day at L.E.A.P. Community Garden

June 3, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Please join us for the Orientation and planting of the Community Garden!
49 Main Street, Hudson Falls
Plants, seeds, and gardening tools will be provided.
Since 2017, L.E.A.P. has operated a Community Garden at 49 Main Street in Hudson Falls for residents of Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, or Kingsbury that do not have garden space where they live. We currently have 12 garden plots measuring 8’x4’ which are available to residents at no charge. L.E.A.P. provides seeds, plants, soil, manure, and garden tools for the families and individuals with a garden plot. Clients are responsible to tend their own garden bed. In 2020, all 12 garden beds were in use, and we also had beds cultivated by the L.E.A.P. Program Coordinator Leeah Wright, which provided pumpkin, watermelon, acorn squash, rhubarb, asparagus, and berries available for harvest.
Community Gardens improve air and soil quality. They increase social ties and build a sense of community which can reduce crime, empower residents, and increase the feeling of safety in an area. Community Gardens benefit low-income residents particularly, who are often challenged by low accessibility to nutritious foods, causing obesity and other health problems. Taking part in this activity can improve mental and physical health, promote relaxation, reduce the risk of obesity, increase physical activity, and teach entire family units useful skills and healthy dietary habits by exposing them to foods that they may not have otherwise been able to afford or access.
To RSVP, or for more information on how you can apply for a bed at the L.E.A.P. Community Garden, please contact Program Coordinator Leeah Wright at 518-746-2391
