Early Head Start Lead Teacher-Whitehall

The Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher is directly responsible to the Early Head Start Education Coordinator and ensures that the classroom is in compliance with the Performance Standards and with the Washington County EOC Head Start/Early Head Start Comprehensive Program Plan.  It is the understanding and expectation of this organization that all employees will take the opportunity to contribute to the overall success and mission of the agency above and beyond the basic requirements of their job.

Salary:  $16.52/hr.      Weeks Per Year 52        Hours Per Week:    35

Work Weeks Per Year: 52 Classification: Non-Exempt

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the agency’s policy on confidentiality both within the agency and the community and adhere to all program policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with all program staff to ensure an integrated approach and provide comprehensive services to children and families.
  • Promote and support the program’s School Readiness Goals and the Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) goals.
  • Assist in supervising, providing ongoing training, and evaluating the Assistant Teacher and Teacher’s Aide, Substitutes and Volunteers.
  • Provide a safe and healthy social, emotional, and physical environment for children and be responsive to individual children’s strengths, interests and needs.
  • Assume responsibility for the daily and weekly cleaning and sanitizing of the classroom and for the day to day maintenance of playground materials and equipment.
  • Communicate appropriately with children.
  • Develop individual and classroom goals and plans, either weekly or bi-weekly.
  • Maintain up to date educational records for each child, including ongoing observation records (anecdotal), assessments, and progress reports.
  • Use developmentally appropriate classroom management techniques and strategies.
  • Assist children in learning and using appropriate problem solving techniques.
  • Provide a classroom climate that fosters children’s autonomy and independence.
  • Integrate the educational aspects of all Head Start/Early Head Start areas into the daily educational program.
  • Plan and implement various school readiness strategies to engage and develop partnerships with parents.
  • Make home visits and parent contacts.
  • Utilize professional reading, writing and communication skills in order to develop and carry out necessary job requirements.
  • Assess the overall progress and needs of the program.
  • Attend upon request all staff and other appropriate meetings, trainings and conferences, some of which may require out of the county travel and evening/overnight attendance.
  • Maintain all applicable licenses, certifications, and credentials.

Educational Experience Required:

  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (or baccalaureate or advanced degree in any subject, and coursework equivalent to a major relating to ECE with experience teaching toddler-age children).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Preferred
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with young children, preferably in an infant/toddler setting.

 

Additional Experience Required:

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • An understanding of young children and low-income families, and an appreciation of parents as the primary educators of their children.
