Early Head Start Floating Teacher’s Aide–Cambridge

The EHS Floating Teacher’s Aide is directly responsible to the EHS Lead Teacher and assists the teaching team in ensuring that the classroom is in compliance with the Performance Standards and with the L.E.A.P. Head Start/Early Head Start Comprehensive Program Plan. It is the understanding and expectation of this organization that all employees will take the opportunity to contribute to the overall success and mission of the agency above and beyond the basic requirements of their job.

Salary: $12.15/hr.     Hours Per Week: 20

10:00 AM-2:00PM Monday-Friday Classification: Non-Exempt

  • Adhere to the agency’s policy on confidentiality both within the agency and the community and adhere to all program policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with all program staff to ensure an integrated approach and provide comprehensive services to children and families.
  • Assist the teaching team in providing a safe and healthy social, emotional, and physical environment for children and be responsive to individual children’s strengths, interests and needs.
  • Promote and support the program’s School Readiness goals and the Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) goals
  • Communicate appropriately with children and families.
  • Review weekly plans with the teaching team.
  • Share with the teaching team responsibilities for maintaining up to date educational records through the recording of anecdotal observations on each child.
  • Share with the teaching team the use of developmentally appropriate classroom management techniques and strategies that do not take away from learning time.
  • Assist children in problem solving techniques.
  • Work individually with children and small groups.
  • Clean classroom and lavatory areas after each group; sanitize toys weekly, and perform other delegated cleaning.
  • Manage a table at mealtimes including snack.
  • Encourage parent classroom volunteers.
  • Assist as a bus monitor when needed.
  • Utilize professional reading, writing and communication skills in order to carry out necessary job requirements.
  • Assess the overall progress and needs of the program.
  • Attend staff meetings, appropriate center team planning sessions, case conferences, committee meetings and all appropriate training some of which may require out of the county travel and evening/overnight attendance.
  • Maintain all applicable licenses, certifications and credentials.

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Reading, writing and communication skills necessary to perform job responsibilities.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • An understanding of young children and low-income families, and an appreciation of parents as the primary educators of their children
